Childhood Obesity

Thank You for taking the time to visit our blog.

We are a non-profit corporation dedicated to promoting fitness, preventing childhood obesity and establishing a set of health guidelines for children through advocacy, education, research and service one click at a time.

The increasing and unsettling problem of overweight and obesity in the U.S. is affecting children as well as adults. Childhood obesity is becoming an epidemic in the United States. Parents, pediatricians, and even political icons like Michelle Obama are focused on promoting healthy weight in children. In the past 20 years the rates of childhood overweight and obesity have more than doubled. In a recent Stanford study 20% of children were overweight or obese at 11 years of age. This is a serious public health problem. Many of these children will develop problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease as adults, disorders that are associated with many complications from vision problems to heart attacks or strokes. In addition, an increasing number of children are developing diabetes in CHILDHOOD.

There are a variety of ways to promote healthy weight in kids. We can tackle eating and food issues at home and school. We can urge our children to increase activity and exercise. Most importantly, we can join forces with parents, physicians, and educators to create the optimal environments for our kids.

For many kids, biking to the playground and playing kickball in the backyard have given way to watching television, playing video games and spending hours online. But it's never too late to get your child off the couch. It is never too late to take back control of your fitness, nutrition, health and lifestyle.
